What are the causes of Water Pollution?Water Pollution is caused by many factors. The major, common ones being the following:
Industrial Waste - As much s I am embarassed to say so, we humans come in first place in the causes of water pollution. Many of today's industrial facilities and factories use the freshwater in our water bodies as a dump site. The "trash" or waste that is commonly dumped in the seas, oceans, rivers etc include: Oil, Petrochemicals and Mercury. All three of these waste products are extremely harmful to marine life and if are consumed by us could result harmful to us humans too.
Global Warming - Believe it or not, Global Warming too is a major contributor in Water Pollution. Try boiling water in a kettle or Metal Pot (commonly reffered to as "Sufuria" in Kenya) and dip just your finger in the water. Painful huh? Just the same way as a rise in water temperature can affect you, it also greatly affects marine life. It can even result into the death of aquatic organisms.
Radioactive material - Radioactive substances are used in nuclear power plants, medical, industrial and other scientific
processes. It is exactly these such places that are fond of dumping radioactive waste in the seas, oceans etc. The waste could as a result harm marine life therefore causing alarm when it comes to eating the fish. The fish may be dangerous to eat which as a result could harm us too.
Sewage - Almost everywhere, waste water is produced.
